ImmutableX Co-founder: It is expected that 90% of Web3 games will fail next year, while the successful 10% will redefine the industry.
BlockBeats News, September 13th, BlockBeats reporter reported from the front line of Token2049 that Robbie Ferguson, co-founder of ImmutableX, stated at the "Web3 Gaming and the Path Towards an Open Metaverse" panel discussion at Token2049 in Singapore:
"Even though we have created the world's best Web3 games in the past two years, we could not have predicted the current popular phenomenon. You can see this from the situation with friend tech, which is a viral code in Web3. The current barrier to entry for the crypto experience is hindering mainstream adoption, but the infrastructure is gradually improving.
Now, the world's largest third-party app store is also considering how to embrace Web3, the EU is promoting sideloading of iPhone devices, and Epic Store and Google Play are also strong supporters of Web3. So the question now is, when will this explosive trend start?
Web3 games have received a lot of investment, and we have enough capital and well-made games. But unlike DeFi, which can produce something in production within a month after receiving $100 million in funding, game development usually takes 2 to 4 years, sometimes even 6 to 7 years. We basically believe that 40% to 50% of games will go live next year, but 90% of games will fail. However, the successful 10% or 5% will completely redefine the entire industry and generate trading volumes that exceed the total of other games. Games are driven by user activity, and we expect that Web3 games will be even more so, which will drive the development of the entire industry and provide a template for others to replicate."
