Stake.com co-founder: This hack was not due to the hacker controlling the private key.
According to a report by DL News on September 6, Edward Craven, co-founder of the crypto gambling platform Stake.com, confirmed that the platform had indeed been hacked. However, the vulnerability was not due to the hacker controlling their private keys, but rather the attacker was able to conduct several unauthorized transactions from their hot wallet. Craven stated that the attack targeted the company's services for authorizing transactions on Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Chain. Stake has since "returned to normal and is operating as it was before the attack."
As previously reported by BlockBeats on September 4, Stake.com was suspected to have been hacked. According to blockchain investigator ZachXBT, the estimated losses from this incident are approximately $15.9 million. The platform also had $25.6 million worth of crypto assets stolen on the BSC and Polygon networks.
