Vitalik: Ethereum needs to undergo three technical transitions and reshape the relationship between users and addresses.
On June 9th, in his latest article "Three Transformations", Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, pointed out that Ethereum needs to undergo three major technological transformations: transitioning to L2 scaling and everyone transitioning to Rollup; transitioning to wallet security and everyone using smart contract wallets; transitioning to privacy to ensure the feasibility of protecting privacy in fund transfers.
Vitalik stated that without L2 scaling, Ethereum's high transaction costs would hinder widespread adoption and lead to centralized solutions; without wallet security, users would be unwilling to store funds and non-financial assets, leading to a shift towards centralized trading platforms; without privacy, the public availability of all transactions would compromise user privacy and push them towards centralized solutions that provide data protection. The three technological transformations will redefine the relationship between users and addresses, as users will have multiple addresses in L2 and face challenges in maintaining address consistency. In the case of each user having multiple addresses, innovative solutions are needed to address issues such as the infeasibility of Gas costs, counterfactual addresses, and privacy.
