The proposed new regulations for crypto advertising in the UK aim to prohibit the promotion of NFTs and cryptocurrency airdrops.
According to a report by CoinDesk on June 9th, after the implementation of the FCA's new cryptocurrency advertising regulations, it will be prohibited to promote investment in digital assets by giving away free NFTs or cryptocurrencies through airdrops. Matthew Long, the FCA's Director of Payments and Digital Assets, stated that these free NFTs and airdrops could lead consumers to purchase cryptocurrencies that they realize "may cause problems later" when used to promote investment in cryptocurrency products. He also emphasized that cryptocurrency airdrops and NFTs themselves will not be banned, only promotional activities involving airdrops will be prohibited.
As previously reported by BlockBeats, the FCA announced that from October 8th, cryptocurrency service advertisers will face stricter regulations in the UK. This includes introducing a "cooling-off period" for first-time investors and requiring cryptocurrency companies to eliminate incentive measures such as "referral bonuses to friends". The FCA stated that stricter regulations are aimed at helping investors understand the risks associated with cryptocurrency investment.
