BNB Beacon Chain is planning to conduct a Barrel hard fork upgrade on April 21st to introduce security enhancements for cross-chain interoperability.
BlockBeats reported on April 17th that the BNB Beacon Chain is expected to undergo the scheduled Barral hard fork upgrade at block height 310,182,000. Based on the current block generation speed, the hard fork is expected to occur on April 21st at 3:00 PM Beijing time. Full node operators on the mainnet must switch their software version to v0.10.10 before April 21st.
In this upgrade, BEP171 introduces several security enhancements for cross-chain bridging between BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain. To further eliminate potential issues in the cross-chain module, the following improvements are proposed:
1. Upgrade IAVL proof verification to ICS23 specification.
2. Timer lock for cross-chain transfer of massive funds.
3. Cross-chain channels can be automatically suspended through forged proof detection.
4. Any validator can pause the cross-chain channel in case of an emergency.
