Commerzbank: The ECB is expected to raise interest rates for the first time by 75 basis points in September

If the European Central Bank chooses to raise interest rates by 75 basis points next week (the probability is nearly 75%), it will be the first time it has done so much, said Christoph Rieger, head of interest rates and credit research at Commerzbank in BlockBeats, September 2. He said in a note: "The ECB has never raised rates by more than 50 basis points, while the Bundesbank last raised rates by 75 basis points back in 1992. While uncertainty is high, the case for a bigger 75 basis point hike is stronger, with a 75 basis point hike expected in September, followed by a 50 basis point hike in October, and 25 basis points each in December and February next year."
